History
Since we’ve unsuccessfully tried to get Aaron Sorkin to write a screenplay for the eventual motion picture of our story, you’ll have to settle for a more boring play-by-play of our history:
Years ago, Eric Schwarz originally wanted to write software. He was trying to find a name for his dining room (the garage was taken) tech startup, and the name ‘Schwarz Tech’ was thrown out by his dad and kinda stuck. After realizing that the software business was a little too dull, especially in an era of no cool Apple-provided developer tools, he decided to go into design and also be an amateur tech pundit. The name came with because it was pretty good.
SchwarzTech began operations in 1999 as Eric’s own resource for older Macs and Web design (not necessarily combining the two, but they shared the space). It also served as a companion to his writings on other Mac sites.
In early 2002, SchwarzTech merged with a few other smaller Mac ventures, creating MacWeekly. SchwarzTech became a subsite of MacWeekly, and MacWeekly gained a small following and featured many product reviews and articles, some of which are still in our archives today.
In late 2003, MacWeekly was reorganized and rebranded as SchwarzTech. Because of this, we moved to the current domain, getting more powerful hosting, and ending some of the less popular projects that were part of MacWeekly. Since then, we’ve been growing and adding new content, features, and writers.
In September 2010, one of Eric’s close friends, Matt Bloomingdale, also an Apple geek, approached Eric about the idea to do a podcast. Wanting to use up some more space on the Internet and use GarageBand for something, Eric agreed and on October 10, 2010, the first episode of SchwarzTech Radio went “on the air” (and on iTunes).

The Staff
Curious about the minds behind SchwarzTech? You’ve come to the right place…
Eric Schwarz
Eric is the founder and publisher of SchwarzTech, and has used Macs for most of his life. He spends a lot of time using Macs for what they are excellent for — graphics and video. Previously, he has written for Classic Mac Weekly, MacWeekly (the old one), and Low End Mac. He is also the president of iMUG and is responsible for all the dirty work involved with designing the site. He co-hosts both SchwarzTech Radio and Slide to Unlock.
Matt Bloomingdale
Matt started out in the technology realm by building Windows boxes before discovering the Mac mini. Since leaving the dark-side, Matt currently works at Bowling Green State University and is a podcast fiend. If it has to do with iTunes—he’s a fan. In his spare time, Matt enjoys writing and exploring the poor man’s world of particle physics. He can also be found sharing his opinions on A Modern Day Drifter. He co-hosts SchwarzTech Radio.
Lindsey McElroy
Lindsey often puts up with Eric & Matt bouncing ideas off of her, providing her expertise on SchwarzTech Radio, and enjoying her gadgets. She can often be found lounging around on a couch or chair surrounded by her hoarded Apple gadgets. If anything, she’s the moral support behind the site. She co-hosts Slide to Unlock.
Chris Lawson
Chris has been a freelance columnist and technical writer since 1999. When he gets a chance, Chris is copy editor and occasional columnist here at SchwarzTech. He’s involved with About This Particular Macintosh and also maintains a personal site, chrislawson.net. Chris has also hit “Reload” countless times in Camino while helping us test various parts of the site.
Other Contributors
We’ve had a number of various other writers write for SchwarzTech as guests. As they’ve only written one or two things, we never received any biographical information, but you can read some of the things they’ve written.
Want to be part of this list?
If you want to write for SchwarzTech, let us know! We’ll take anything from a guest article/review to a regular recurring column, as long as you can actually write. The pay’s not so great, but wouldn’t it be cool to see your name on the Internet? You can show that off to your friends…
