I agree. IM is the worst productivity drain due to its laggy real-time nature; in addition the implicit expectation of the recipient’s immediate response opens up new avenues of corporate abuse and responsibility shirking.

I don’t “get” IM: I can send E-mail; I can pick up the phone. What ecological niche is IM supposed to be filling for me?
