At its education event, Apple made significant updates to a number of their education products. iBooks has been updated to version 2, and includes support for textbooks, while iTunes U is now its own iPad app. The biggest news (we think) is the new iBooks Author app for the Mac. Although sudden, it really didn’t come as much of a surprise, but Apple has issued a statement that co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs has passed away at the age of 56, after a years-long and highly public battle with cancer and other health issues…

We had covered Apple’s event live, and as expected, there were some exciting items, some disappointments, and a few surprises. The company basically re-released last year’s iPod nanos with modified software, and the iPod touch is now available in white. Both lines received price drops. A number of sources, including an Apple press release have stated that Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO, and the Board has named Tim Cook (Apple’s COO), as the company’s new CEO. He won’t be completely gone from day to day operations, though—Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board…
